The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time – A review of a Trustus Theater Presentation

Curious_Blog-01-1200x2097                Attended the Thursday night performance of this play based on the book by Mark Haddon and adapted by Simon Stephens. Our own Chad Henderson directed the amazing cast which includes an actor, Beck-Ryan Chandler, with autism in the lead role. In doing so, Trustus also works with Autism Speaks in Lexington, SC to ensure authenticity in the presentation. And, happily so, because Mr. Chandler is absolute dynamite, giving an incandescent performance. The viewer has no problem seeing the highs and lows of the young man as he becomes embroiled in a mystery that he is determined to solve. Being accused of the crime initially but knowing that he is completely innocent fuels his drive to deal with the world around him in a way that he has not experienced before. Complicating the whole mess is Christopher’s looming examination of his mathematical ability to achieve the highest level of recognition as a mathematician.

Be prepared to learn some astrophysics and higher math logic than most of us are normally exposed to. This is also presented by Christopher in a delightful way and you will be cheering him on as he does.

The entire cast does a wonderful job playing multiple roles as the story moves along, all have extensive experience on stage with Mr. Pattison, as Christopher’s dad ED, has film and television experience here in the U.S. and in Great Britain. Much of the cast are Trustus veterans with a couple of debut roles performed in this production.

Bottom line? Get thyself to the theater before this run ends on February 9, 2019. You won’t regret it, I guarantee.
